DJ Galen (aka *Kid Id*) / Playlist / Jason's Upstairs Bar (Hudson, NY) - May 8, 2009 [10 PM - 3 AM]
Club night. This was my first gig at Jason's. Fabulous space, upstairs off Warren St., just down from Mexican Radio (Restaurant). Classic NYC style shot-gun type space with long bar as you enter, pool table, stage, with a few booths and couches. Feedback from Holly (who helped me get the gig), was that "Jason and his wife really like it. It's not all hip-hop." I'd planned to start the gig with "My Way," the Sid Vicious version, as a kind of statement of intent (which I find both hillarious and super rockin'). [The other two tracks kinda snuck in as 'soundcheck'.] Other than that, I didn't really have a plan. I guess I was expecting more of a club/techno/dance slant to things but people responded really well to my usual blenda. I ended up playing a lot more punk & new wave than I ever could have guess. Which I dug. Total blast, in all. P.S. Five hours is a lot of music. P.P.S. I realized about 11 songs in that I could use my Portable Digital Audio Recorder to document the gig. I was amazed at the results (CD quality) and have since made it a habit to record everything.
