Song Of The Week
This Week, "Bird Song." If you listen close you can hear birds & kids in the background. Seemed appropriate for Summer's End. Half my kids are back to school today.
"Bird Song," is the 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting September 1, 2010.

This week, motivational speaker, Doug Sham, delivers his infamous, "Happy Hour Acceptance Speech," a sound construction from the series called, "More Fun With Dictation LPs," which pretty well speaks for itself.
"Happy Hour Acceptance Speech," was the 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting August 25, 2010.

This week, "Like A Tree," a happy little ditty recorded in 2004.
[ Took last week off due to post-wedding doldrums. This is one of those calm after the storm songs. ]
"Like A Tree," was the 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting August 18, 2010.

This week, in honor of my pending nuptials, a recording I made a few days ago of my daughter, Charlotte (age 8), rehearsing the Ray Price song, "I'll Be There (If You Ever Want Me)," which she intends to sing at the reception. We were going over it using Ray's original recording as reference and I realized it was pitched way too low for her, so I opened the track in my audio software and raised the pitch (a fourth) keeping the tempo the same, which made it much more comfortable for her to sing, when she wasn't laughing, because it sounded pretty funny now, resulting in my renaming this new version, "Ray Chipmunk." This (surreptitious) recording was Charlotte's first pass at singing it in this key. Obviously a bit uneven, but she has a real gift. Enjoy.
"I'll Be There," by Charlotte Blythe + Ray Chipmunk, was the 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting August 4, 2010.

"Slide Rule #1," is from my collection of acoustic music, Quaint, recorded last year. Bottle-neck slide floating like a cloud in a big desert sky. My debt to Ry Cooder is pretty obvious here.
"Slide Rule #1," was 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting July 28, 2010.

"There Is No Hell," is asong by Plucker that arrived pretty much fully formed in our rehearsal process. This is the second time we ever played it. The arrangement was tightened a bit, but not a word was changed from the original improvisation. It is a good example of what I am capable of as a song-writer, and the chemistry between Andy and I is evident. It is, oddly perhaps, one of my most personal songs.
"There Is No Hell," was 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting July 21, 2010.

"It Might Happen," is a song by my band, Plucker, a duo w/ drummer Andy Malm. This is a rehearsal recording from back in the 'Tympanic' days, recorded in 2005 by Earl Hurl @ Hurlomatic, which is to say, by me, at my old house by the Green River. We had played the song maybe three times before. About half the lyrics are improvised. Pretty tight little track.
"It Might Happen," was 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting July 14, 2010.

"Moaning Sickness," is a song I recorded with Mario Gardner in 1993. Short and angelic. Mario sings. I play guitar, recorded & mixed it. We were working on music for his film, Days Of Pentecost, directed by Lawrence Elbert. Mario has been on my mind a lot, lately. Have you ever heard a voice quite like this?
Moaning Sickness was a take on Mario's tune, "Morning Sickness." I actually wrote 'Song Of The Weed' by mistake, but caught it. Ha!
"Moaning Sickness," was 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting July 7, 2010.

"Star Cross Love," is a song I wrote during a creative burst that accompanied the birth of my first child. It is not, however, a kid song. This version features Michael Krassner on second guitar, and Wil Hendricks on bass. It was recorded (by me) in 1995 in the studio off the Pasadena house under the avocado tree.
"Star Crossed Love," was 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting June 30, 2010.

"Happily Ever After," was written for my daughters and recorded with their instruments. First one of these with my voice on it. ;o
"Happily Ever After," was 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting June 23, 2010.

"Wolves At The Door," is a crunchy instrumental (with scratchy wolves) featuring percussionist Craig Brown recorded in the basement of the Los Angeles Theater Center (LATC) in 1990.
"Wolves At The Door," was 'Song Of The Week' for the week starting June 16, 2010.
