<< I am a bookworm. >>

I am currently reading, "Ahab's Wife: Or, The Star-Gazer," by Sena Jeter Naslund, which is luminous, poetic and beautiful, and the third book in a row I've read that was given to me by my mother.

Like everyone else with the literary fever I was super saddened to hear of the death of David Foster Wallace. I had just recently finished re-reading "Infinite Jest" when I found out and it was like getting punched in the face and punched in the gut at the same time. I thought about it and realized how alive he was/is as an author in me, and but several of his quirks and technical devices have wedged themselves deep in my consciousness and his imagination is twined and branching throughout all my nerve fiber. Synapse snap. It really hurt. I will have to catch up on some of what I haven't read (the non-fiction, esp. the McCain piece from 2000 about being aboard the 'straightalk express'). His last collection of short fiction was really sharp, too ("Oblivious"). Well, Mr. DFW, RIP. (11/3/08)
